The list, by category

Below is the list itself: the notable tools in each category, what each one does, and where it stands today. That last column matters more than you would expect. Recruitment tech was one of the most heavily funded software categories of the early 2020s, and heavy funding is followed by consolidation. A meaningful share of the names that still circulate on "best recruiting tools" lists have been absorbed into someone else's suite or switched off entirely. Every status below was checked against the vendor's own site in July 2026.

What the attrition tells you

Read the right-hand column as a whole and a pattern falls out. The categories that lost the most names are the ones that were never really products: standalone diversity and inclusion tooling has been almost entirely wiped out, and standalone onboarding and video interviewing have fared little better. These were features that briefly raised venture rounds. The categories that held up are the ones a buyer signs an annual contract for and builds a process around, above all the ATS and background checks.

That is the practical filter to carry into any shortlist. Before you evaluate a point solution, ask whether the job it does is one your ATS will simply ship next year. If the answer is probably yes, the migration cost of adopting it now is real and the payoff window is short. And check the vendor is still alive under the name you know it by, because as the table shows, quite a few of them are not.
